Repairs and maintenance

Shopfront repairs

Shopfront repairs are the work needed to put a damaged or worn shop frontage back into safe, secure, working order without replacing it. A job can be a single lock, a cracked pane, a sagging door or a leaking frame, in aluminium, steel, timber or glass.

How do you know you need this?

You need a repair when part of the frontage has stopped doing its job. The usual signs are a door that drags or will not lock, draughts or water at the frame, cracked or misted glass, loose cover trims, a shutter that sticks or a sign that has failed. These faults tend to worsen with daily use, and a shop that cannot be locked properly may breach your insurance conditions.

What do we fix?

Doors that stick or dropWorn pivots, hinges or floor springs let a door drop and catch the frame. We find the cause rather than forcing or planing the door.
Cracked or broken glassWe make the pane safe, measure the opening and fit the correct safety glass for its position in the frontage.
Locks and keysSeized cylinders, worn hookbolts and lost keys are dealt with so the door locks properly at closing time.
Frame and trim damageDented sections, loose cover caps and impact damage from vehicles or trolleys are repaired or replaced length by length.
Leaks and draughtsFailed silicone, perished gaskets and blocked drainage paths let in water and cold air. We trace the route before resealing.
Shutter and sign faultsOne contractor can look at the whole frontage, so a stuck shutter and a dead sign do not need two separate call-outs.

How much do shopfront repairs cost?

A shopfront repair usually costs £125 to £995 ex VAT for most single repairs. Send photos first, because many jobs can be priced from them. Where a fault cannot be priced that way, we book a charged diagnostic visit, from £125 ex VAT, and you hear that cost before we come out. Parts, access and out-of-hours work can move the figure, so we confirm the repair price before starting.

Guide prices exclude VAT. Your repair price, including any visit charge, is confirmed before work starts.

How does the job run?

  1. Send photos

Send us photos of the fault and a short note of what has happened, including whether the shop can still lock up.

  2. Get the cost

We price from the photos where we can. If we cannot, we explain the charged diagnostic visit and tell you its cost first.

  3. Carry out the repair

The fault is fixed on the visit if the parts are to hand, or we come back once made-to-measure parts have arrived.

  4. Test and hand over

We run the door, lock or shutter with you, then send an itemised invoice with photos of the finished work.

Common questions

Can my shopfront be repaired or does it need replacing?

Many faults can be repaired without replacing the frontage, provided the frame is sound. If corrosion, rot or repeated damage means a repair would not last, we will say so. A refurbishment or a new shopfront is then priced as a separate job.

Do shopfront repairs need planning permission?

Like-for-like repairs usually do not need planning permission in England. A change that materially alters the appearance may need it, and a listed building may need listed building consent. Rules differ in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, so check with your council before changing the look.

Can you provide paperwork for an insurance claim?

Yes, we can provide photos and an itemised invoice for your insurer. Whether a claim is paid is the insurer's decision, and we cannot promise an outcome. Speak to them before work starts if they need to approve the repair or send an assessor.

Can repairs be done outside trading hours?

Yes, out-of-hours, overnight and weekend work can be arranged so you can keep trading. Tell us your opening times when you first get in touch. We confirm the booking and any change in cost before the work is scheduled.

Are shopfront repairs guaranteed?

Yes, our workmanship carries a 10-year guarantee. Replacement products such as motors, closers and glass units are covered by the manufacturer's warranty instead. We will tell you which cover applies to your repair when we confirm the price.
