Doors and entrances
Glass entrance doors
A glass entrance door is a shop door made from toughened or laminated safety glass, hung on patch fittings, pivots or a slim top and bottom rail, and usually controlled by a floor spring or overhead closer. It can sit in a frameless front or an aluminium screen.

When is this the right choice?
Glass doors suit shops, salons, offices and showrooms that want light and a clear view through the entrance. They work well where the floor and head can take the fixings and staff lock up properly. They are a poor match for high-risk sites unless backed by a shutter or grille, as the glass is the only barrier. A rail door suits harder use.
What are the options?
How much does a glass entrance door cost?
Glass entrance doors usually cost £1,295 to £3,495 ex VAT per door set, supplied and fitted. Door size, glass thickness, single or double leaves and the quality of the fittings decide where you land in that range. A new floor spring means cutting a pocket in the floor, which adds labour. Fixed side panels, a fanlight and access control are priced as extras.
Guide prices exclude VAT. Your written quote is fixed after survey.

How does the job run?
Measure and check the floor
We measure the opening and check whether the floor can take a spring pocket.
Confirm glass and hardware
You choose the fittings, handles and locking, and the glass is ordered with every hole and notch set out.
Prepare the fixings
Floor spring pockets, top pivots and any closers are fitted before the glass arrives on site.
Hang the door
The leaf goes on, the closing speed and latch action are set, and manifestation is applied.
Common questions
What thickness of glass is used for a shop door?
Most frameless shop doors use 10 mm or 12 mm toughened glass. The choice depends on door size, the fittings and how the door will be used. Laminated toughened glass can be specified where there is a higher risk of attack or accidental breakage.
Do glass doors need a floor spring?
No, but most frameless glass doors use one, because there is no frame to carry a closer. The spring sits hidden in the floor and controls how the door swings and closes. A rail door can use an overhead closer to BS EN 1154 instead.
How do I make a glass door accessible?
Start with clear width, a low threshold and a light opening force. In England, Approved Document M gives a clear width of 775 mm for existing buildings, and a force of 30 N at the door edge for the first 30 degrees. Visible markings and contrasting handles also help.
How do you lock a glass door?
A glass door is usually locked with a patch lock near the floor or a lock in the bottom rail, using a cylinder and key. For stronger protection, we add a shutter or internal grille, because the toughened glass is the weakest point of the door.
