Repairs and maintenance

Shop door repairs

Shop door repairs are repairs to the door leaf, frame, hinges, pivots, handles and seals of a commercial entrance door. They cover aluminium, glass, timber and steel doors, and aim to restore safe daily use and secure locking without replacing the whole door set.

How do you know you need this?

You need a door repair when the entrance stops opening, closing or locking cleanly. Typical signs are a door that catches the floor, drops at the lock side, slams, swings past its stop, leaves a visible gap or only locks when pushed. Forced doors often look fine but have bent frames or damaged locks. Because this door works all day, a small fault tends to become a bigger one.

What do we fix?

Dropped or sagging doorWorn hinges, pivots or floor springs let the door sink. We reset the door or replace the worn part so that it clears the floor again.
Bent door after forced entryAluminium stiles and frames can twist under a jemmy. We straighten what we can and replace sections that have torn.
Broken handles and push platesLoose or snapped door furniture is refixed or replaced, with care taken around glass doors.
Worn seals and thresholdsPerished brushes, gaskets and threshold plates let in rain, grit and cold air, and they are simple to renew.
Rear and fire exit doorsSteel, timber and composite doors at the back of the shop get the same checks, and any fire rating is kept in place.

How much does it cost to repair a shop door?

Repairing a shop door costs £125 to £595 ex VAT per door, with glass, locks and floor springs priced on their own if they also need work. Photos and a short video of the door moving often let us price it remotely. If they do not, a charged diagnostic visit, from £125 ex VAT, finds the cause, and we give you that cost first.

Guide prices exclude VAT. Your repair price, including any visit charge, is confirmed before work starts.

How does the job run?

  1. Film the door

Send a short video of the door opening, closing and locking, plus a photo of any damage.

  2. Find the cause

We work out whether the fault lies in the door, the frame, the closer or the lock, on site if we need to.

  3. Repair and align

Worn parts are replaced, then the door is rehung and aligned so that it clears the frame evenly.

  4. Check the locking

We test the door through its full swing and confirm it latches and locks without being pushed.

Common questions

Why does my shop door keep sticking?

A sticking door usually has worn hinges or pivots, a tired floor spring or a frame that has moved. Seals and thresholds can also catch. Planing or forcing the door rarely cures it, so we find the cause first and repair that.

Can a shop door be repaired after a break-in?

Often yes, if the leaf and frame are still straight. Bent aluminium sections and torn lock pockets may need replacing. We can provide photos and an itemised invoice for your insurer, although whether a claim is paid is always their decision.

Can you repair the fire exit door at the back of my shop?

Yes, provided the repair keeps the door's fire performance. Closers, hinges and seals on FD30 and FD60 doors must suit the tested door. In England and Wales, the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 makes the responsible person keep them in good repair.

When is it worth replacing the door instead?

Replacement makes sense when the frame is twisted, the leaf is corroded or rotten, or the same repair keeps coming back. We will tell you if a repair is unlikely to last. A new entrance door set is then priced as a separate job.

Will a repair make my door wheelchair accessible?

Not on its own, although a lighter closer and a lower threshold can help. Approved Document M gives a 775 mm clear width for existing buildings in England. The Equality Act 2010 expects reasonable adjustments, so a wider change may be worth discussing.
