Glazing and cladding

Commercial windows and glazing

Commercial windows and glazing covers the supply and fitting of windows, sealed glass units and glazed screens for shops, offices and other business premises. It includes opening and fixed windows, usually in aluminium, and specialist glass for energy, noise and solar control.

When is this the right choice?

This service suits landlords and business owners replacing failed windows above a shop, reglazing upper floors, adding glazed office partitions, or upgrading noisy, draughty or hot rooms. It suits premises where the frontage stays but the rest of the building needs attention. It is also useful during a refit, when rear, side and upper windows should match the new frontage.

What are the options?

Thermally broken aluminium windowsInsulated frames for heated rooms, fixed or opening, powder coated to match the frontage.
Replacement sealed unitsFailed double-glazed units can be swapped in the existing frame when the frame is sound.
Solar control glassCoated glass reduces heat gain on sunny elevations.
Acoustic glassLaminated glass with an acoustic interlayer reduces road and street noise.
Glazed screens and partitionsFixed glazing for offices, lobbies and shop interiors, with safety glass at low level.
Secondary glazingAn inner pane behind an existing window, useful on listed buildings where the original must stay.

How much do commercial windows cost?

Commercial windows usually cost £450 to £1,295 ex VAT per window, supplied and fitted. Size, frame material, opening type and glass specification set the rate, and solar control or acoustic glass adds to it. Access matters too, because upper-floor windows may need a tower, scaffold or out-of-hours road space. A written quote follows once every opening is measured.

Guide prices exclude VAT. Your written quote is fixed after survey.

How does the job run?

  1. Survey each opening

We measure each window and note frame condition, access and which units have failed.

  2. Specify the glass

We match the glass to the room, covering energy, solar control, noise or safety needs.

  3. Manufacture

Frames and sealed units are made to the measured sizes and coated in your chosen RAL colour.

  4. Install and finish

Old units come out, new ones are fixed and sealed, and trims and ventilation are completed.

Common questions

Do replacement windows need to meet building regulations?

Usually yes. In England, Approved Document L gives a limit of 1.6 W/m²K for new or replacement windows in non-domestic buildings, and Approved Documents K and F also apply. Scotland uses Technical Handbooks and building warrants, and Northern Ireland uses Technical Booklets.

Can I replace just the glass instead of the whole window?

Yes, if the frame is sound. A misted or broken sealed unit can usually be replaced on its own, which costs less than a new window. If the frames are corroded, warped or draughty, replacing the whole window is usually better value over time.

What glass reduces street noise?

Laminated glass with an acoustic interlayer performs better than standard glass, especially when paired with a wide cavity or secondary glazing. Results depend on the existing frame and air gaps, so sealing the window matters as much as the glass choice.

Can windows be replaced on a listed building?

Sometimes, but listed building consent is usually needed and like-for-like repair is often preferred. Secondary glazing on the inside can be a less invasive option, though it may also need consent. Speak to the conservation officer first, and we can prepare drawings for the application.
